ESY 2024 Is Here!

Summer Around the World

We are pleased to announce the release of enCORE Extended School Year (ESY) 2024!

ESY is a 4-week extended school year curriculum for K-12 students with moderate to severe disabilities. This year’s theme is Summer Around the World! Students will engage with rich content to learn about countries around the world.

For all grade bands:

  • Week 1 – Summer Around the World
  • Week 2 – Cambodia
  • Week 3 – Guatemala
  • Week 4 – Nigeria

After Week 1, the curriculum is flexible. You can use Week 1 to plan your adventure around the world and then have the ability to complete the other 3 topics in the order that you choose.

What’s Included?

Each week includes newsletters, mini-lessons, printable worksheets, technology lessons, and a sample schedule. Instruction in each mini-lesson flows through the gradual release of responsibility, beginning with anchoring instruction to activate background knowledge and make connections to new learning. Then, teachers move through the I Do, We Do, You Do model.

Scripted ESY Lessons

ESY includes sample scripting for those who wish to use it while encouraging teachers to revise the script as necessary to fit the specific needs of their students. A sample script is shown below:

The ESY lessons and activities are available to use in multiple formats. Lessons can be

delivered via interactive whiteboards or tablets to individual or small groups of students

using the teacher-led technology lessons, individually to students via student-led technology lessons, and individually or in a group setting using the printed worksheets. Lessons and materials are adapted to meet the needs of your learners!

At the end of the first week’s mini lesson, there is a Suggested Reading List that includes multiple suggested titles per week. The literature selection represents a variety of genres and corresponding Lexile levels are included.
