TeachTown Basics System Requirements
TeachTown Basics is offered to run on a variety of platforms allowing each site to choose the one most appropriate.

Browser-based applications:
  • High speed internet connection - DSL or Cable (1 Mbps) recommended.
  • Any modern HTML5-compliant browser such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari, IE 10 or above.
  • Minimum screen resolution 1024x768.
  • Runs on any computer or device that will run a supported browser noted above.
iPad applications:
  • Installed via Apple App Store.
  • iPad 4th Generation, or iPad Air and above.
  • iOS v8.1 minimum
  • High speed internet connection - DSL or Cable (1 Mbps) recommended. However, most applications are capable of running off line or on slower internet connections once content has been cached locally.
Chrome Apps:
  • Installed via the Chrome Web Store, and requires the Chrome web browser.
  • High speed internet connection - DSL or Cable (1 Mbps) recommended. However, most applications are capable of running off line or on slower internet connections once content has been cached locally.
  • Minimum screen resolution 1024x768.
  • Supports touch screen if present.
  • Can run on all Chromebooks, or any Windows or Mac computer that supports the Chrome browser.

Cross-platform (Windows, Mac, Linux) software application that you install on your computer:
TeachTown Basics can also be installed on the client's computer. TeachTown Basics has an Internet component. An Internet connection is not necessary each time TeachTown Basics is used. However, performing certain tasks, such as creating a student account, does require an Internet connection. Furthermore, TeachTown Basics does require to be connected to the Internet at least once every two weeks.

In addition to installing the software, teachers may need assistance in getting connected to the TeachTown servers. Each TeachTown user needs his (or her) own unique login profile. Once the teacher has created a login profile, make sure that he or she can "sync" to the TeachTown servers by logging in to the software.

Adobe AIR (Installed with TeachTown installation disc)

Note: Windows 98 and Windows 2000 are not supported.
Additional Implementation and Setup Information
TeachTown connects to www.teachtown.com via port 443. This is an SSL connection. Most firewalls allow this by default.
TeachTown does not use a browser to make this connection; it is strictly a client application. It is possible to configure TeachTown Basics to work through a proxy server, however in most cases proxy servers will be detected automatically.

Note: Power PCs are not supported, as their operating systems are older than 10.6.
