Task Analytic Instruction

Task analytic instruction involves breaking complex skills into smaller teachable steps. Through the use of systematic and explicit instruction, scaffolding and reinforcements, discrete skills can be taught and later chained together to form larger, more complex repertoires. The process of solving word problems is explicitly broken down into digestible chunks, allowing the teacher to carefully monitor student progress while the student has the opportunity to repeat and practice.

The scripted lesson provides a guide for breaking down complex, grade-aligned content using explicit and systematic instructional strategies. During the teaching phase, teachers are encouraged to provide specific verbal feedback after each chain in the task and to model and repeat steps that students find difficult.
